This is a day we will never forget...A routine 6 yr "well-child" check on 9-10-10....didn't go as planned. Sydney's urine was checked & BLAM..... The nurse came into the room & said "There is glucose in her urine".... I though, OK, so....I need to work on her diet? Boy, was I ever clueless....
In about 2 minutes...Reality set in...they checked her blood glucose level, took blood to check her AIC, and the doctor was on the phone to Children's Mercy....REALITY...Syd, my baby girl, is likely diabetic...
Dad is an RN, so we made a call to him....This is the FIRST well-child check that we haven't gone to together....He didn't take the news well. Being a nurse, I guess he felt that HE should have seen some signs... problem was...this was caught sooo early, Syd was not yet symptomatic...
So after an eternity of waiting for tests to come back, numerous phones calls back & forth with husband....we were on our way home to pack our bags.....The weekend would be spent at Children's Mercy.
